A pixie has nothing to hide behind, so balanced proportions carry it most easily. On a heart-shaped face, volume on top with a close nape balances a narrower chin particularly well.
Fine hair that never had volume
Counter-intuitive but consistently true: fine hair looks its fullest short. Remove the length and the roots stop being weighed down — a pixie gives fine hair more apparent density than any long cut can.

Very thick coarse hair sits out rather than down at pixie length and needs serious internal thinning to lie flat — possible, but it is a longer appointment and a more skilled cut than most people expect. And if you are unsure at all, a bixie or a short bob gets you most of the way with a three-month grow-out instead of a twelve-month one.

The highest-frequency cut on this page. A pixie two weeks overdue does not read as long hair, it reads as an unshaped one, because the proportion between top and sides is the whole design.
Wax or paste, not serum
Short hair needs hold and separation. A pea-sized amount of matte paste worked through with fingertips is the entire routine.
The nape is the high-maintenance part
The back of the neck is where regrowth shows first and where you cannot see it. It is the reason to book the follow-up before you leave.
This is the honest part. Growing out a pixie takes eight to twelve months and passes through an awkward stage around months three to five, when the sides reach the ears and stick out. It is manageable — regular shaping turns it into a bixie, then a short bob, then a chin-length bob — but it needs salon visits during the grow-out, not fewer of them. Will a pixie cut suit my face shape?+
Oval and heart shapes are the easiest. Round faces need height on top and length left at the sideburn to avoid reading wider; square jaws want a softer, textured finish rather than a blunt crop. The try-on above is the fastest honest answer, and the consultation is free.
How long does it take to grow out a pixie cut?+
Eight to twelve months to reach a chin-length bob, at an average growth rate of about a centimetre a month. The middle of that period is the tricky bit, and it is easier with a shaping trim every eight weeks — counter-intuitive, but cutting during a grow-out is what keeps it wearable.
Does a pixie cut work on thick Indian hair?+
Yes, but it is a more technical cut. Thick coarse hair needs internal weight removed or it stands away from the head instead of lying against it. Budget a longer appointment and be clear that you want it thinned internally, not just cut short.
How much styling does a pixie need?+
About two minutes. Towel dry, a small amount of matte paste through the top with your fingers, and that is it. There is no blow-dry step, which is what most clients say they miss least.
Is a bixie different from a pixie?+
Yes — a bixie sits between a bob and a pixie: slightly longer through the top and sides, softer around the ears, and it covers the nape. It is the usual recommendation for a first short cut because the grow-out is around four months instead of a year.
